ProForm Elliptical Trainer Reviews

ProForm Elliptical Trainers provide a balance of features and affordability, with most of their machines available for under $1000.

ProForm and NordicTrack are two of the brands owned by Icon Health and Fitness, which is why you’ll often notice similarities in features, entertainment options, and console design.

So how do you decide on the best ProForm elliptical for your fitness goals and budget?

To help with your selection, we’ve put together this in-depth guide to ProForm latest ellipticals, complete with a feature summary for easy comparison.

If you would like to find out more about a specific model, we’ve also written a more in-depth review for each ProForm elliptical. This includes a look at the workout programs, entertainment options, design, and comparisons with ellipticals from other industry leaders such as Precor and NordicTrack.

ProForm 520 E Elliptical

ProForm 520 E Elliptical Trainer Review

Review rating: 3.5 star review rating
As the entry level elliptical in their Endurance collection, the ProForm 520 E represents one of their most affordable front drive ellipticals.

As with the upgraded 720 E, you’re only getting iFit compatibility, meaning you need to purchase a wireless module separately if you want to take advantage of this service.

However, compared to other ellipticals in this price range, you’re still getting a lot for your money, including a challenging 20° incline and selection of 18 workout apps.

But given the price difference between the ProForm 520 E and top-of-the-line iFit enabled 920 E, does it make more sense to save your money and invest in the higher spec elliptical?

  • Workout programs: 18
  • Stride length: 20″
  • Incline: 20°
  • iFit: Compatible
  • Resistance levels: 18
  • Screen size: 5″
  • User profiles: 4 (with iFit)
  • Weight capacity: 300 lbs

To help answer this question we took a closer look at the design, display console features, workout programs and more. This gave us a clear picture of which ProForm Endurance elliptical represented the best value for money.

ProForm 720 E Elliptical

ProForm 720 E Elliptical Trainer Review

Review rating: 4 star review rating
As the mid-range machine in the ProForm Endurance series, the 720 E offers more resistance levels, a higher weight capacity, longer parts warranty, and more workout apps than the entry level ProForm 520 E.

Unfortunately you’re still limited to the iFit® Compatible console, which means you’ll need to purchase the wireless iFit module separately, together with a subscription if you want to use the service.

The only elliptical in the Endurance collection that has an iFit® Enabled console as standard is the ProForm 920 E. Despite being their top-of-the-line machine, it’s usually available for just $200 more than the Endurance 720 E.

  • Workout programs: 24
  • Stride length: 20″
  • Incline: 20°
  • iFit: Compatible
  • Resistance levels: 20
  • Screen size: 5″
  • User profiles: 4 (with iFit)
  • Weight capacity: 325 lbs

To find out more about the upgrades, including the addition of ProForm’s CoolAire™ Workout Fan, it’s worth taking a look at our full review.

This is where you can also find in-depth feature comparisons between the 720 E and other ProForm ellipticals, as well as bestsellers from other industry leaders, such as Sole Fitness and Precor.

ProForm 920 E Elliptical

ProForm 920 E Elliptical Trainer Review

Review rating: 4.5 star review rating
As the top elliptical in their Endurance series, the ProForm 920 E has a number of important upgrades over the earlier models. This includes being the only elliptical in the collection that’s fitted with an iFit® Enabled console (others are iFit compatible).

The console screen has also been upgraded, making it 40% larger than the display on the 520 E or 720 E ellipticals. This is partly because it’s now a full color touchscreen, replacing the blue backlit LCD and giving you the option to navigate menus on-screen.

Not only that, but the screen is also web-enabled, meaning you can switch from a Google Maps view of your running route to checking your social media profiles without interrupting your workout.

  • Workout programs: 32
  • Stride length: 20″
  • Incline: 20°
  • iFit: Enabled
  • Resistance levels: 24
  • Screen size: 7″
  • User profiles: 4 (with iFit)
  • Weight capacity: 325 lbs

Often available for under $1000 on Amazon and the ProForm website, the 920 E is packed with features that make it one of the most highly rated ellipticals in this price range.

But is this really the best mid-range elliptical trainer out there, or would you be better investing in one of the NordicTrack, Yowza Fitness, or Bowflex designs?

This is something we answer in our review, by taking a closer look at everything from the stride length and resistance system, through to the warranty and entertainment options.

ProForm Smart Strider 535 Elliptical

ProForm Smart Strider 535 Elliptical Trainer Review

Review rating: 3.5 star review rating
As the entry level rear drive elliptical in their Smart Strider collection, the ProForm 535 offers significantly less in terms of features compared to the upgraded 735 and 935 models.

Unfortunately it’s also the only ProForm elliptical fitted with a console that isn’t iFit compatible or iFit enabled (excluding their Hybrid trainer).

With an onboard workout collection of just 18 apps, this means much less variation for your fitness routine, and much more limited entertainment options.

The Out-of-Box assembly and SpaveSaver design are certainly attractive features, but when you consider the upgrades available with the Smart Strider 735 (next model in the collection), is it really the best way to spend your money?

We put together a quick summary of the 735 model below, but essentially you would be getting a 10° power incline (no incline on the 535), iFit compatible console, higher weight capacity, longer warranty, and much more.

  • Workout programs: 18
  • Stride length: 20″
  • Incline:
  • iFit: No
  • Resistance levels: 18
  • Screen size: Large LCD
  • User profiles: 0
  • Weight capacity: 275 lbs

But if your budget can’t stretch to one of the more advanced ProForm elliptical trainers, does the Smart Strider 535 represent your best option at this price point?

In our review we take a closer look at all aspects of the machine, from workout programs and entertainment options, through to design features and assembly steps. We’ve also included some comparisons with other ProForm ellipticals, as well as similarly priced designs from NordicTrack.

ProForm Smart Strider 735 Elliptical

ProForm Smart Strider 735 Elliptical Trainer Review

Review rating: 4 star review rating
As an upgrade to the Smart Strider 535, this is the first elliptical in ProForm’s Smart Strider collection to include a power incline.

With a maximum gradient of 10° it’s still a long way off the 20° range of their Endurance ellipticals, but allows you to increase the intensity of your workouts beyond what the resistance levels can offer.

You’re also getting 4 additional built-in workouts, each of which has been designed by a certified personal trainer. Combine this with the iFit compatible console, which wasn’t available on the Smart Strider 535, and the result is much more challenging and varied cardio workouts.

  • Workout programs: 22
  • Stride length: 20″
  • Incline: 10°
  • iFit: Compatible
  • Resistance levels: 20
  • Screen size: 5″
  • User profiles: 4 (with iFit)
  • Weight capacity: 300 lbs

So have ProForm managed to maintain their track record of delivering high quality elliptical trainers at an affordable price?

To find out more about how the Smart Strider 735 compares to NordicTrack’s rear drive SpaceSaver ellipticals, it’s worth having a read of our review. This is where we also provide more information on the workouts, warranty, features, and entertainment options, as well as highlighting the best places to buy this elliptical at the lowest price.

ProForm Smart Strider 935 Elliptical

ProForm Smart Strider 735 Elliptical Trainer Review

Review rating: 4.5 star review rating
The Smart Strider 935 is one of ProForm’s top-of-the-line elliptical trainers, with a number of significant upgrades compared to the earlier 535 and 735 models.

It’s the only one of the three to feature an iFit enabled console, meaning you don’t have the added expense of buying a separate wireless iFit module.

ProForm have also included a wireless chest strap for heart rate monitoring, and of course there’s an increase in the number of resistance levels and built-in workout programs.

The ProForm 935 is also the only elliptical in the Smart Strider series to feature in-handle quick-touch controls, allowing for quicker transitions between incline and resistance levels.

Looking for a more immersive workout experience? The screen is 40% larger than on the earlier Smart Strider 735, is touch sensitive, full color, and web enabled. This allows you to effortlessly switch between tracking your workout with Google Maps using iFit, and checking your social media profiles or watching your favourite movie.

  • Workout programs: 30
  • Stride length: 20″
  • Incline: 10°
  • iFit: Enabled
  • Resistance levels: 24
  • Screen size: 7″
  • User profiles: 4 (with iFit)
  • Weight capacity: 325 lbs

At first glance the Smart Strider 935 appears to have it all. A folding design and compact footprint, a best-in-class workout selection, challenging incline and an impressive warranty. But is this elliptical the best choice for your own fitness goals and budget?

In our review we make some interesting comparisons between this and the top-of-the-line SE9i from NordicTrack’s SpaceSaver collection. We’ll also give you a clearer idea of what to expect from the workout programs, entertainment features, warranty, and much more.

ProForm 12.0 NE Elliptical

ProForm Smart Strider 735 Elliptical Trainer Review

Review rating: 4.5 star review rating
Most ProForm elliptical collections only have iFit enabled on their top-of-the-line machine, including the Smart Strider and Endurance series’.

But with their Pro collection, this is a much more common feature, with the ProForm 12.0 NE, 12.9 Pro, and 16.9 Pro ellipticals all being fitted with iFit enabled consoles as standard.

The Pro collection really starts where the other collections ended, with the entry level 12.0 NE model featuring a 7″ full-color touchscreen, 24 digital resistance levels, and 32 built-in workout apps.

Because they’re all front drive ellipticals, we’re also seeing a return to steeper inclines of up to 20°, after the 10° max gradient of the Smart Strider machines.

  • Workout programs: 32
  • Stride length: 20″
  • Incline: 20°
  • iFit: Enabled
  • Resistance levels: 24
  • Screen size: 7″
  • User profiles: 4 (with iFit)
  • Weight capacity: 350 lbs

So what’s the difference between the 12.0 NE and the Pro 16.9 – one of ProForm’s highest spec ellipticals?

To find out more about the upgrades you can expect, and whether we believe the Pro 12.0 NE, Pro 12.9 or Pro 16.9 to be better value for money, it’s worth having a read of our review.

ProForm Pro 12.9 Elliptical

ProForm Pro 12.9 Elliptical Trainer Review

Review rating: 4.5 star review rating
Despite the difference in price, most ProForm Pro ellipticals are built around a very similar specification.

But as the upgraded version of the Pro 12.0 NE, there are some obvious advantages, such as a longer warranty coverage and higher weight capacity. You’re also getting 2 additional resistance levels, and a further 3 workout programs.

In fact, it’s exactly the same spec as their top-of-the-line Pro 16.9 elliptical (below), apart from one minor exception. With the Pro 16.9, the display screen measures 10″ instead of 7″.

But does the ProForm Pro 12.9 have enough upgraded features to make it our clear favorite over the earlier Pro 12.0 NE elliptical?

  • Workout programs: 35
  • Stride length: 20″
  • Incline: 20°
  • iFit: Enabled
  • Resistance levels: 26
  • Screen size: 7″
  • User profiles: 4 (with iFit)
  • Weight capacity: 375 lbs

To find out, we put together an in-depth review and comparison of the features that are most important for a high quality elliptical trainer.

This includes stride length, handle design, entertainment options, warranty coverage, and workout program variation, as well as recommendations on the best place to buy.

ProForm Pro 16.9 Elliptical

ProForm Pro 16.9 Elliptical Trainer Review

Review rating: 4.5 star review rating
The ProForm 16.9 features the same convenient Out-of-Box assembly as the Pro 12.0 NE and Pro 12.9 ellipticals, and is the top-of-the-line elliptical in their Pro collection.

The full-color web-enabled touchscreen is now 3″ larger than the other two models, and remains iFit enabled for easy access to their collection of online workouts.

Heart rate monitoring is available via the EKG™ Grip Pulse sensors built into the handles, as well as the wireless chest strap (included).

But with no additional resistance levels or workout programs compared to the ProForm Pro 12.9, does the larger screen really justify what’s usually a $200 price difference?

  • Workout programs: 35
  • Stride length: 20″
  • Incline: 20°
  • iFit: Enabled
  • Resistance levels: 26
  • Screen size: 10″
  • User profiles: 4 (with iFit)
  • Weight capacity: 375 lbs
