The MET-Rx BCAA 2200 amino softgels deviate slightly from the standard 2:1:1 ratio with 1200mg of L-Leucine, 500mg of L-Isoleucine, and 500mg of L-Valine per serving. But what does this mean for your workout results, and how does it compare to the patent-pending 3:1:2 ratio of MusclePharm’s BCAA powder?
This review looks at how MET-Rx BCAA 2200 can be beneficial to your health and fitness goals, whether you’re training for CrossFit, bodybuilding, powerlifting, or simply looking to increase muscle tone. This includes in-depth analysis of the branched-chain aminos, and why vitamin E and 800% of your vitamin B-6 RDA are included per serving.
We’ve also compared MET-Rx BCAA softgels to one of the top rated BCAA supplements on the market; Bulk Supplements BCAA. This is in terms of amino ratio, delivery method, dosage, cost per serving, and added ingredients.
MET-Rx BCAA 2200 Ingredients
Leucine (1200 mg)
Amino acids are the building blocks of proteins. In addition to building muscle, proteins also make up hormones, enzymes, and antibodies, among other things.
Leucine is one of nine essential amino acids we need to consume through foods and supplements in order for our bodies to function properly. It’s also one of three Branched-Chain Amino Acids, which, together with Isoleucine and Valine, make up about one-third of muscle protein.
Leucine is involved specifically in fat metabolism. Studies show that the human body needs proportionately more leucine than either isoleucine or valine. That’s why MET-RX BCAA 2200 Amino Acid Softgels contain more than double the leucine compared to isoleucine and valine.
BCAA blends with Leucine help to prevent or decrease protein degradation during endurance exercise, and may improve both physical and mental performance, while sparing muscle glycogen (energy) stores.
Isoleucine (500 mg)
Isoleucine is a BCAA with a wide range of functions, including helping to heal wounds, stimulating immune function, and contributing to carbohydrate and fat metabolism. It is found naturally in meats, fish, cheese, and seeds and nuts.
Isoleucine also helps to lower blood glucose levels, thereby controlling glucose spikes and, in turn, improving energy availability. Muscle protein synthesis is boosted in healthy people, and in patients with impaired liver function.
Valine (500 mg)
Valine is a BCAA that promotes muscle growth and tissue repair. It helps to maintain mental sharpness and muscle coordination, while also promoting mental calm. Valine, like isoleucine, is an important element in carbohydrate metabolism.
Vitamin B6 (16 mg, 800%)
BCAA 2200 is one of the few amino supplements to contain Vitamin B6. This helps to normalize the BCAA:AAA (acidic/aromatic amino acid) ratio. As a result, your body is able to better regulate the metabolism of nitrogen, one of the main components of proteins.
Vitamin E (8 IU 27%)
Vitamin E is used in this formulation to provide a medium in which to suspend the amino acids. In addition to the functional purpose of vitamin E, it also has a series of important functions in the body.
Vitamin E is an antioxidant that protects cells from the damaging effects of free radicals that may cause cardiovascular disease. It also helps support the immune system, regulate gene expression, and is an important component for the health of outer skin and epithelial cells.

Who should take BCAAs?
This supplement is best for people who carry out endurance exercises. BCAA supplementation is often used to prevent muscle breakdown during long periods of exercise, and promote muscle synthesis after resistance training.
Some of the types of exercise that can benefit most from MET-Rx BCAA 2200 are weightlifters, long-distance runners, and cyclists.
When is the best time to take it?
It is recommended to take four (4) softgels before or after your training session. If you take them before, it will help with performance and endurance, in addition to preventing muscle breakdown that can occur during long periods of exercise.
If you take them after your exercise, it will assist with muscle recovery. It is important not to exceed the recommended doses.
BCAA 2200 vs. Bulk Supplements BCAA
As with MET-Rx BCAA 2200, Bulk Supplements BCAA delivers the three BCAAs: Leucine, Isoleucine, and Valine. There are, however, many differences between the two supplements.
First, Bulk Supplements BCAA is found in a tasteless powder form, while MET-Rx is found in a softgel form. While the serving for the Bulk Supplements BCAA provides about half of each of the BCAAs as MET-Rx, it also requires the person taking it to consume it three times a day, rather than the one-time, four-pill dose of MET-Rx BCAA 2200.
The form of the supplement changes the ease with which it can be taken. Softgels can generally be taken easier than a powdered supplement, which must be carefully measured and mixed with a drink. If you are using a meal-replacement shake as part of your daily supplement regimen, however, the powder form can be more convenient.
Additionally, the Bulk Supplements BCAA doesn’t provide vitamin B6, potentially reducing its metabolism and use in the body.
But the big difference here is price. In our experience, softgels and capsules are the most expensive delivery method for supplements. If you’re looking to save money, you should always opt for the powder.
At the time of writing this review, BCAA 2200 was priced at $0.26 per serving, while Bulk Supplements BCAA was priced closer to $0.10 per serving. This calculation took into account the difference in quantities of BCAAs between the two products.
What flavors and sizes are available?
MET-Rx BCAA 2200 is a tasteless, easy-to-swallow softgel. It is available in a 180-count bottle, which is enough for 45 days of supplementation (one serving is 4 softgels).

Who are MET-Rx?
MET-Rx has been a market leader in sports nutrition for over 20 years. Their reputation has been built on delivering high quality supplements, such as protein bars, RTDs, protein powders, multivitamins, amino acids, and creatine.
Some of the current bestsellers include Natural Whey Protein Powder, Creatine 4200, and the MET-Rx Protein Plus bar, each of which has over 500 highly rated reviews on Amazon.
MET-Rx is also well known for its meal replacement powders (MRPs). The first version required you to mix powder from two canisters; one labelled ‘base’ and their other ‘plus’. This was later released as a single product, where the micellar casein component was removed.
Today, the MET-Rx meal replacement powder remains one of their most popular supplements. Each serving contains 3g of L-Glutamine, 38g of Metamyosyn protein, and more than 6g of BCAAs.
