Design Features
The Omron Series 3 features a cuff that can be applied to your left or right wrist, which measures your blood pressure and pulse. After your blood pressure reading reaches a point above the systolic pressure, the squeeze of the cuff is slowly reduced until it senses the diastolic pressure.
As a digital blood pressure monitor, the BP629 detects your blood’s movement through the brachial artery, then converts this into a digital reading. This makes it easy to use, as there’s no need for a stethoscope or manual inflation of the cuff.
The LCD display shows average heart rate, date and time, blood pressure level, systolic BP, diastolic BP, and pulse. There’s also a ‘movement error’ symbol, which becomes active if you’re moving too much to achieve an accurate reading.
In addition to monitoring your blood pressure, the Omron Series 3 features irregular heartbeat detection. Also known as an arrhythmia or dysrhythmia, irregular heartbeat readings can occur in healthy hearts, or be an indication of underlying health issues.
The cuff is designed to fit a wrist circumference from 5 1/4 inches to 8 1/2 inches (13.5 cm to 21.5 cm), which is slightly smaller than the design from Care Touch (5.5″ to 8.5″).
Blood pressure accuracy is rated to ±3mmHg, with inflation and deflation controlled by an electric pump. BP measurement is performed using the oscillometric method, with 2 new alkaline batteries lasting approximately 300 uses.

Accuracy and Ease of Use
10 Tips For Accurate Readings
- Keep your body as still as possible while the monitor is taking a reading
- No exercise, smoking, or caffeine within 30 minutes of measuring your blood pressure
- Have at least 15 minutes of rest before measurements
- Sit in a solid chair (not sofa or soft cushions), with your back straight and supported
- Keep your legs uncrossed and feet flat on the floor

When you switch to the right wrist, turn the cuff around so the shortest part of the device is over the highest part of the wrist bone, on the radial artery thumb side facing the inside of the wrist.

So, is the Omron 3 Series Wrist BPM worth buying?
Compared to other Omron devices, it's certainly the most affordable, usually priced just under $37. That's compared to just under $50 for the 7 Series, and $100 for the 10 Series.
The supported wrist size range is the same for all Omron wrist BPMs, as is the method of measurement (oscillometric).
It really depends how many readings you need to store, and how many people will be using it.
The Omron 3 Series is perfect for one person taking no more than 2 readings per day. Because the memory only stores 60 readings, this will store enough data for 1 month of measurements.
But with no way to delete individual results, you might be better upgrading to the 7 Series. For what's usually an extra $13, you're getting 3 additional years on the warranty (5 years total), and 100 readings instead of 60. You'll also benefit from Omron's UltraSilent inflation feature, which isn't available on the 3 Series.
