Jarrow Formulas Creatine delivers 6 g of Creapure creatine monohydrate per serving, with 100 servings in a 600g tub for around $15 making one of the best value creatine powders on the market. But what exactly is Creapure and will this improve your strength and endurance faster than creatine AKG or creatine kre-alkalyn?

Creapure has been produced in Germany since the mid-1990s by AlzChem, and is a pure form of high-quality creatine monohydrate. This is typically tested using high pressure liquid chromatography (HPLC), which is the same process used by MET-Rx with their Creatine 4200 rapid release capsules.

HPLC is a high pressure method of separating the creatine powder into the smallest possible particles, to speed up absorption into the bloodstream after ingestion. But although Creapure is widely regarded as one of the purest and highest quality creatines available, how does it compare to other bestselling creatine powders and pre-workout supplements?

In this review we’ll explain why we think Jarrow Formulas represents excellent value for money. However, we’ll also explain why it wouldn’t be our first choice, and provide recommendations for the best supplement stacks for muscle strength and size if you’re training for bodybuilding or powerlifting.

Jarrow Formulas uses Creapure® creatine monohydrate, which is widely regarded as the purest, highest quality form of creatine available.

Produced by AlzChem Performance nutrition, Creapure® is created in a sealed production line, with a special chamber dedicated to packaging to eliminate the risk of cross-contamination with other products.

AlzChem facilites also follow Good Manufacturing Practice (GMP), with Hazard Analysis and Critical Control Points (HACCP) to identify and eliminate the risk of contamination. This helps guarantee the purity and safety of the final Creapure® creatine powder.

Jarrow Formulas use a larger serving size than most companies (6 g), so how does this affect the price?

Is there a cheaper alternative to Jarrow Formulas?

Whenever we review a creatine supplement, we judge value on two things; cost per gram, and cost per serving. That’s because with a supplement like this, if we judged purely on serving price, we wouldn’t factor in the larger dose of creatine.

In terms of cost-per-gram, we found the Jarrow Formulas product to be one of the cheapest creatine supplements on the market. At the time of writing this review, the 600 g tub was priced at $0.02 per gram, which is second only to a 25 kg sack of creatine (not Creapure®) from Bulk Supplements.

The closest competitor we found was Optimum Nutrition Creatine Powder. This also uses Creapure® but has a 5 g serving size, available at a lower price to Jarrow Formulas.

Jarrow creatine is suitable for vegetarians and vegans, made in germany, and available in tubs of 325 g, 600 g, or 1 kg.

Post-workout or pre-workout?

Stir 1 scoop (6 g) of Creatine Monohydrate into 20 oz. of water or fruit juice (Glucose, as found in certain fruit juices, enhances uptake and utilization of creatine monohydrate); for higher intakes, consult your qualified healthcare professional.

As with any creatine monohydrate powder, on training days your total daily dose should be split between your pre- and post-workout protein shakes.

What size is the best value?

With a serving size of 1 scoop (6g), each tub provides you with either 54, 100 or 156 servings.

At the time of writing this review, the best value for money comes from the larger 600g or 1kg tubs. Each serving was priced at $0.15, compared to $0.35 per serving with the smaller 325g tub. That’s why we always recommend calculating the average cost per serving, across all sizes, before making a final buying decision.

Creatine Powder Buying Guide

Review Overview

Overall Review Rating

4.5 / 5

Jarrow Formulas has exactly what we’re looking for in a high quality creatine supplement; purity of ingredients, and value for money.

The HPLC assured Creapure® creatine is the purest form of monohydrate you can buy, provided in a generous 6 g dose. This means you’re getting 20% more creatine per serving compared to products like Optimum Nutrition Creatine and Dymatize Creatine.

At the time of writing this review, you could pick up a 1 kg tub for as little as $0.15 per serving.

Jarrow Formulas Creatine has to rank as one of the most underrated supplements on Amazon, as it has so few reviews compared to products like Bulk Supplements Creatine. Somehow Jarrow have managed to keep the price down, despite using the clinically proven Creapure® creatine. Highly recommended.
