If you want to avoid paying expensive gym membership fees and workout from home, it’s important to find a setup that allows a full body workout, even if you have limited space available.
In the same way that foldable treadmills and exercise bikes are excellent for improving aerobic fitness, FID weights benches and adjustable dumbbells are an excellent choice for anyone looking to tone up or build muscle.
This is why we wanted to take a closer look at the TB560 Adjustable Dumbbell Set, to see exactly what it has to offer. As well as the overall design, we also looked at the exercise options and a quick summary of the customer reviews.
Weight plate adjustment and increments
When deciding which dumbbell set will make the best addition to your home gym, it’s important to consider the design of the weight plate adjustment system.
Although many sets feature a single locking pin, the TB560 Adjustable Dumbbells by Performance Fitness Systems use a series of 8 adjustable pins on each dumbbell.
Even if you’ve already used an adjustable set in the past, switching between the different settings can take some getting used to.
Each setting is clearly labeled so you always know how much weight you’re using, with options ranging from 5 lb all the way up to 60 lb.
The 23 weight increments that are available between these settings are designed to provide all the same benefits as owning multiple sets of fixed weight dumbbells.
The difference is that you don’t need to spend hundreds of dollars or reserve large amounts of space for the storage racks that you would need to keep them organized.
The stand that’s provided with the TB560 dumbbells measures a compact 17″ x 18″, and does an excellent job of keeping the set within easy reach during your workout.

‘Easy to grip’ handle design
Another area of design where the TB560 adjustable dumbbell differs from some of the other adjustable dumbbells available is in the handle design.
There isn’t the same level of coating or ergonomic contouring as on similarly priced sets, which can feel slightly rougher on your hands during workouts that include higher reps.
The majority of customers who have left reviews on shopping sites such as Amazon have simply worn gloves if this has caused an issue.
The size of the handle still gives you plenty of room to find your perfect grip position before lifting the weight clear of the stand. When you want to replace the weight at the end of your set, it’s just a case of lining up the plates.
Build quality and exercise options
Having so many different weight plate settings that vary by such small increments (2.5 lb) makes it much easier to maintain progressive strength gains in your choice of exercises.
This is particularly true of exercises such as concentration curls or side lateral raises, where you usually don’t want to be using too much weight to achieve the best muscle stimulation.
Although there are a few more plastic parts to be found on the TB560 dumbbell set than on similar designs, this doesn’t take anything away from the actual build quality, as can be seen from the collection of highly rated reviews.
If you wondering how many exercises are really possible using this dumbbell set, there are really too many variations to list here. However, the following list does show some of the more popular and effective exercises to include in a dumbbell workout:
- Dumbbell curls
- Hammer curls
- Arnold presses
- Lateral raises
- Stiff-legged deadlifts
- Overhead tricep extensions
- Dumbbell rows
- Rear delt flys
That’s not to mention the dozens more exercise options available when you combine this set with a high quality adjustable weights bench.
Customer reviews and comparison
Despite falling into one of the most competitive price brackets for this type of gym equipment ($300 – $400), the TB560 Adjustable Dumbbells have still proven a popular choice for home workouts.
If you aren’t able to find a local stockist to try the set out for yourself, one of the best was to find out the pros and cons is to read through some reviews left by customers who have bought and used the dumbbells in their own training.
It’s actually difficult to find any reviews that rate the TB560’s at anything lower than 3 out of 5 stars when it comes to the Amazon reviews section, which is certainly an encouraging sign.
Despite much of the design being constructed from heavy duty plastic, this doesn’t seem to take anything away from their overall quality and how much people enjoy using them.
Based on the existing collection of customer reviews, we’ve put together the following list of pros and cons that received the most mentions:
- Compact design saves on space
- Great customer service
- Weight loaded on each dumbbell is always clearly labelled
- High quality and durable design, despite some parts being plastic
- Higher weight limit per dumbbell than many sets at this price point
- Quick and easy to adjust the weight
- Much of the set is made from plastic instead of cast iron
- Sometimes difficult to get the weight plates to line up correctly when returning the dumbbells to the stand (Mainly an issue with the storage tray, not the dumbbell itself)
