About the Precor Precision Series

Although this particular guide has been written specifically for the Elliptical Fitness Crosstrainers (EFX), the Precision Series also includes a number of high quality treadmills.

Released at the same time as the treadmills and EFX trainers in the Energy Series, these machines combine Precor’s 20+ years of experience in the fitness equipment industry to bring a new generation of technology to home gyms around the world.

Taking inspiration from the advanced display console options and smooth elliptical stride of their commercial Experience Series 830 Line, the Precision ellipticals have very much been designed around a personalized workout experience.

Due to its effectiveness in toning and strengthening lower body muscles, CrossRamp technology is one of the most popular features that has been brought forward from Precor’s earlier 5.2(x) and 5.3(x) collections.

The top of the line EFX 447 even allows integration with the Preva workout tracking app, so that you can maintain an accurate historical log of your workouts.

Safety has also been a major focus with the Precision Series, resulting in foot pedal locking pins and console activation key sequences being added to many of the models. Combining this with their low center of gravity and wide, supportive base to enhance stability, and what you have is a high quality home elliptical that’s as well suited to single-user operation as it is to family environments.

Precor Elliptical Guide

Do you have the space for a Precision crosstrainer?

One of the most important things to bear in mind before purchasing any new piece of home fitness equipment is how much space it will require once it’s assembled.

Although some ellipticals and treadmills offer a folding design and transport wheels to reduce the space required when not in use, Precor’s treadmills and ellipticals rely on a fixed frame design.

In many cases this has been found to improve overall stability, and when you have a machine that weighs in excess of 200 lbs – as many elliptical crosstrainers do – then even the folding designs aren’t always easy to move around.

Precor teamed up with Icovia to create their innovative Space Planner tool
The Icovia® Space Planner tool, available through the Precor website

This is one of the reasons Precor teamed up with interactive floor plan and design tool specialists, Icovia, to develop their innovative Space Planner tool.

What the Space Planner allows you to do is recreate a floor plan of the room where you intend to assemble the Precor equipment (in this case a Precision Series elliptical trainer), add the furniture you have in the room, then drag the equipment onto the floor plan to find out where the most space efficient position would be before you even place your order.

To provide a clearer idea of what you can expect if you decide to use the Space Planner tool yourself, we’ve also included a sample floor plan for the placement of each of the ellipticals in the Precision Series, which you can find below.

If you’re interested in finding out more about other Precor collections, we’ve also put together a guide to Precor’s Energy series of EFX ellipticals.

Precor EFX 447 Elliptical Crosstrainer Review

Precor EFX 447

  • Resistance Levels: 20
  • Preset Workouts: 24
  • User IDs: 4
  • CrossRamp Angle: 15° to 40°
  • Feedback Metrics: 27
  • Preva Workout Tracking: Yes
  • Heart Rate: Touch and telemetry
  • Software Upgrade Capable: Yes
  • Accelerator Workouts: 6
  • Custom Workouts: 16

The Preva app integration alone adds an entirely new level to the EFX 447, allowing you to track workouts, collect achievement badges, and share your progress via Facebook and Twitter.

Until now, logging your workouts with the Preva app was reserved for crosstrainers in Precor’s Experience Series, which are machines designed for high-end commercial gyms.

Also available on the flagship model in the Energy Series (EFX 245), this combines with a range of challenging incline options created by CrossRamp, software upgrades and tablet connectivity via a USB port, and the ability to switch between static and moveable handles, to create what we believe to be one of the highest quality elliptical trainers available at any price point. Precor EFX 425 Elliptical Crosstrainer Review

Precor EFX 425

  • Resistance Levels: 20
  • Preset Workouts: 10
  • User IDs: 2
  • CrossRamp Angle: 15° to 40°
  • Feedback Metrics: 13
  • Preva Workout Tracking: No
  • Heart Rate: Touch and telemetry
  • Software Upgrade Capable: No
  • Accelerator Workouts: 5
  • Custom Workouts: 0

The earliest EFX model in the Precision series to offer moveable handles for increased upper body muscle activation, the 425 also includes a motorized CrossRamp, which is in contrast to the manual CrossRamp that comes with the 221 and 222 models in the Energy Series.

This lets you control the incline through the full 25 degree range directly through the console, as well as allowing preset workout programs to automatically adjust the level to keep you within your target heart rate range.

There’s even enough room to safely store your tablet on the console, thanks to the extended height of the display shelf and Precor’s SmartGrip holder. Read the full review..

Precor EFX 423 Elliptical Crosstrainer Review

Precor EFX 423

  • Resistance Levels: 20
  • Preset Workouts: 10

  • Feedback Metrics: 13
  • Preva Workout Tracking: No

Despite being the premier elliptical in the Precision collection, the EFX 423 is still packed with ergonomic design features that allow you to enjoy workouts with varying levels of intensity, without placing undue stress on your joints or ligaments.

The CrossRamp elevation variance through 25 degrees is also identical to the variation offered by the higher priced EFX 447, together with the same level of resistance levels (20), and an equally impressive level of warranty coverage.

Although you don’t have the same Preva workout tracking function or moveable handles that are available with later models in Precor’s Precision range, you do still have a number of workout accelerators and preset programs that allow you to create challenging and varied training sessions.
