Doctor’s Best Glucosamine Chondroitin with MSM Supplement Review

Doctor’s Best Glucosamine is a blend of ‘The Big Three’ ingredients that have shown to be beneficial to joint health, structure, and function; Glucosamine Sulfate 2KCI, Chondroitin Sulfate, and MSM (Methylsulfonylmethane from OptiMSM).

But how does the dosage compare to other top rated Glucosamine supplements from big names like Kirkland Signature, Dr. Tobias, and Zenwise Labs?

In this review we’ll find out whether the ratio of ingredients found in Doctor’s Best Glucosamine is optimal for the health of your joints and cartilage, and whether it can be effectively used in the treatment or prevention of Osteoarthritis.

We’ve also made some important comparisons between the Doctor’s Best product, and two other top-rated Glucosamine supplements; Dr. Tobias Hip Knee and Joints, and Zenwise Labs Joint Support (Pro-Mobility Formula). This includes the price, ingredients, dosage, and customer feedback, and is designed to make sure you only buy the best Glucosamine for your health requirements and budget.

Doctor’s Best Glucosamine Ingredients

Doctor's Best Glucosamine Ingredients

A quick look at the ingredients for Doctor’s Best Glucosamine shows the capsules aren’t suitable for vegetarians or vegans. Gelatin has been used in the creation of the capsules, which also contain shellfish (crab, shrimp, lobster, crayfish).

However, you do have a combination of glucosamine sulfate (1500 mg) and chondroitin sulfate (1200 mg). Studies have shown this to be far more effective than glucosamine HCL and chondroitin, or glucosamine sulfate taken in isolation.

Each 4-capsule serving also contains 1,000 mg of MSM, from OptiMSM™. Although studies have proven this to be effective in the treatment of osteoarthritis, we’re hesitant to recommend OptiMSM™ for exercise-induced muscle and joint pain.

A study of runners completing a half-marathon found that MSM supplementation did lower both short-term (15 minute) and longer-term (1 day) muscle pain. But the same study (part-authored by Eric D Withee, employee at Bergstrom Nutrition, manufacturers of OptiMSM™) also concluded that more research on MSM and post-exercise pain on larger samples was needed.

Doctor’s Best Glucosamine is non-GMO, gluten free, and soy free, but carries an allergen warning due to the shellfish content. Not suitable for vegetarians/vegans due to the gelatin in the capsules.

Other ingredients: Potassium 182 mg, chloride 168 mg, sodium 56 mg.

What sizes are available?

With a serving size of 4 capsules, each bottle provides you with either 30 or 60 servings. You can also find multi-pack deals on the larger 240 count bottles, but in our experience, they don’t offer the best value for money.

At the time of writing this review, the best value for money comes from the bottle of 240 capsules. Each serving was priced at $0.11, compared to $0.16 per serving with the bottle of 120.

We always recommend calculating the average cost per serving, across all sizes, before making a final buying decision.

Review Overview

Overall Review Rating

5 / 5

Doctor's Best Glucosamine has everything you could hope for from a joint health supplement. You have the clinically proven 1,500 mg of glucosamine sulfate, combined with chondroitin and MSM to help relieve joint pain and inflammation.

The fact that gelatin is used in the capsules isn't such a big deal, as glucosamine derived from shellfish is unsuitable for vegetarians anyway. You can also choose from a 1 month or 2 month supply, which can be a great way to save money.

Even as a company, Doctor's Best are one of the most respected in the industry, with high quality ingredients (OptiMSM) and cGMP certified manufacturing processes.

In terms of value for money, Doctor's Best Glucosamine is towards the upper end of the industry average for the ingredients used ($0.40 - $0.50 per day).

Dr. Tobias has a Hip Knee & Joints supplement that delivers the same amount of glucosamine and chondroitin, with twice as much MSM. The price fluctuates, but we have seen this on sale for less than Doctor's Best, so it's certainly worth checking the price of both before you buy.
