MuscleTech Platinum Glutamine is marketed as an ultra-pure, micronized, HPLC tested l-glutamine supplement, available in powder form. But when you consider the price per gram is more than double that of some bestsellers (approx. $0.05 /gram for MuscleTech Platinum, $0.02 /gram for Bulk Supplements L-Glutamine), what exactly sets these two products apart?
In this review we’ll take a closer look at whether the two glutamine supplements really differ in terms of quality, mixability, and effectiveness. This includes differences in the recommended dosage for each supplement (Bulk Supplements recommending 3g per day, MuscleTech recommending 5g).
To help ensure you’re getting the best glutamine for your budget, we’ll also take a quick look at the price difference between supplement stacks from each product line, tailored for specific fitness goals. For example, how much money could you save on a bodybuilding stack by choosing Bulk Supplements glutamine and creatine over products in the MuscleTech Platinum line?
MuscleTech Platinum Ingredients

Supplements can be expensive, especially if you start taking a multivitamin, protein powder, pre-workout energy, and post-workout recovery.
Usually it’s difficult to draw direct comparisons between supplements like protein powders, because they all contain a unique blend of ingredients. But glutamine is much easier, so why should you pay a premium price for MuscleTech Platinum?
At the time of this review, each gram was priced just under $0.06, putting the price of a 5 gram serving closer to $0.30 (60 servings per 300 g tub). Now compare this to Body Fortress Glutamine Powder, with a cost per gram of $0.03. Same single ingredient, half the price of MuscleTech.
Both supplements use deliver glutamine in micronized powder form, rather than in capsules. The problem with capsules is they often contain gelatin, which isn’t suitable for vegetarians or vegans.
Why supplement with glutamine?
As the most abundant non-essential amino acid in the body, glutamine is considered extremely important for muscle metabolism. It’s also thought to control catabolism, boost post-workout recovery, and replenish plasma glutamine after training.
But if you really want to see the best results, you might want to consider buying a BCAA supplement like Scivation Extend. Although the L-Glutamine dose is half of what it is in MuscleTech Platinum, you get a highly effective 2:1:1 ratio of branched chain amino acids thrown in.
Allergen warning: Processed in a facility that also processes milk, egg, soy, fish, and shellfish ingredients.

Review Overview
Overall Review Rating
4.5 / 5
MuscleTech put a lot of time and effort into making sure the ingredients on the label match what’s in the supplement. Although their Platinum Glutamine is a single ingredient product, it’s still reassuring to know it’s been HPLC and cGMP certified.
HPLC stands for high-performance liquid chromatography, and basically separates ingredients and measures the quantity. cGMP refers to Current Good Manufacturing Practice, enforced by the FDA. This ensures proper control of the manufacturing process.
Overall, the cost per serving is very reasonable, provided you can pick up a 300 g tub for under $12. This sets a price of around $0.20 per 5 g serving, and is a personal target that we tend to live by, based on the average price of glutamine supplements across the industry.
MuscleTech itself has always been a respected supplement company, and the highly rated reviews on Amazon are testament to the quality of their glutamine.
