Coromega Omega-3 provides you with 650 mg of long-chain omega-3 fatty acids, made up of 350 mg EPA (Eicosapentaenoic Acid), 230 mg of DHA (Docosahexaenoic Acid), and 70 mg of other omega-3s. You’re also getting 2,000 mg of fish oil in each packet, as well as 250% of your daily recommended dose of vitamin D.

But even when the recommended daily amount is 500 mg, how do you know if this is right for you, and whether Coromega is providing this in the optimal ratio of EPA to DHA?

In this review we’ll be comparing the Coromega squeeze packets to two other top-rated omega-3 supplements; Nordic Naturals Omega-3, and Dr. Tobias Ultimate Omega 3, which has the same dose of fish oil as Coromega, but double the dose of EPA and DHA per serving. Comparisons include the ingredients, price, dosages, cost per serving, customer feedback, health benefits, and any reported side effects.

We’ve also added recommendations for the best supplements to use alongside Coromega Omega 3 to maximize results and assist with promoting overall heart health.

The main selling point of Coromega Omega-3 is its increased absorption. Marketing would have you believe that their squeeze packets are 300% better for absorption compared to premium softgels. But is this really the case?

We actually found a study, published in the Journal of The American Dietetic Association, which tested the enhanced absorption of Coromega.

To guarantee it was only the delivery system being tested, the squeeze packet of emulsified Coromega was tested against as encapsulated version of the same Coromega fish oil. Unfortunately there were just 10 health volunteers split across the two groups, and the comparison was only across 48 hours on a single dose.

The results showed enhanced absorption of the EPA and DHA fatty acids using the emulsified fish oil compared to capsule form. However, in our opinion this study is far from conclusive, and wouldn’t be significant enough for us to choose Coromega over other fish oil supplements.

EPA and DHA levels in Coromega are also lower than some supplements, in relation to the amount of fish oil. For example, Dr. Tobias Omega 3 Fish Oil also has 2000 mg of fish oil per serving, but combines it with 800 mg of EPA and 600 mg of DHA.

Suitable for vegetarians and vegans?

Unfortunately not. Although Coromega uses a different delivery system, the fatty acids are still derived from fish oil.

Most omega-3 supplements aren’t suitable for vegans or vegetarians due to their fish oil content. In this case, you will need to source fatty acids from non-animal sources, such as plants rich in alpha-linolenic acid (ALA). ALA is an essential fatty acid that’s also a precursor to the long-chain omega-3 fatty acids DHA and EPA. Flaxseed oil is a good natural source, as are walnuts, chia seeds and algae.

Recent studies have found an association between ALA and cardiovascular disease and type 2 diabetes. Although there aren’t as many studies as for the marine-derived fatty acids (EPA and DHA), research still suggests ALA is beneficial to cardiovascular health.

This isn’t included in Coromega Omega-3, but can be purchased as a separate supplement. We can recommend Doctor’s Best Alpha-Lipoic Acid 600, which is suitable for vegans and uses vegetarian capsules.

Allergen warnings: Contains egg. Does not contain sugar, artificial sweeteners, dairy yeast, wheat or gluten.

What sizes are available?

With a serving size of 1 packet, each box provides you with 120 servings. Following the recommended daily dose of 1 packet per day, this is enough to supply you with Omega-3 fish oils for up to 4 months / 120 days.

Who are Coromega?

Since 1999, Coromega has been producing high quality omega-3 supplements with natural citrus flavors. Today, each of their products is backed by what they call their ‘TripleCor Advantage’.

This is defined on their website as the “composite of the Coromega Quality System”, comprised of three pillars of excellence; Purity, Freshness, and Absorption. In fact, because of the way Coromega fish oils are sourced and processed, they claim to have a purity rating 5 times greater than the industry standard.

A CoroLoc system then helps to preserve freshness by protecting against oxidation and spoilage. Finally, Coromega uses a unique emulsified formula to boost absorption, with their Squeeze packets proving more effective than standard fish oil softgels.

Their current product line focusses on omega-3 squeeze packets for adults, but they also have a version for kids.

Omega-3 Fatty Acid Supplement Buying Guide

Review Overview

Overall Review Rating

4 / 5

The World Health Organization (WHO) has set a recommended daily intake of 2 g per day. Some experts have suggested a higher dose of 3 g/day, which is still considered safe by the FDA, but rejected by WHO after considering the sustainability of the fish supply.

The National Academy of Medicine has slightly lower recommendations of 1.6 g for men, and 1.1g for women (1.4 g if pregnant). Our omega-3 buying guide has more information on daily intake levels for different health conditions.

Is it worth buying?

Coromega are one of the only companies to provide you with omega-3 fatty acids in a convenient squeeze packet. Unfortunately you’re really not getting very much EPA and DHA (580 mg), considering the 2,000 mg of fish oil per serving.

For comparison, Dr. Tobias also have an omega-3 supplement containing 2,000 mg of fish oil, but delivering 1,400 mg of EPA and DHA. The price is about 50% more than Coromega, but this still works out better value for money.

However, Coromega does contain other ingredients, such as vitamins C and E. But for us, they’re in such low doses that if you’re already taking a multivitamin it probably won’t make much of a difference.

In summary, Coromega’s main selling point is having better absorption than softgels. We’re yet to see a large-scale independent study proving this is the case.

The flavor is excellent and they’re a great option for kids, but for adults who need a higher intake of fatty acids, softgels continue to deliver a more suitable dose at a lower price.
