Nature Made Fish Oil provides you with 2000 mg of Fish Oil Concentrate, which contains 600 mg of omega-3 fatty acids, including your 500 mg daily recommended allowance of EPA and DHA (Eicosapentaenoic Acid and Docosahexaenoic Acid).
Each softgel has also been wrapped in an enteric coating, to reduce the fishy odor and prevent early breakdown of the tablet before it reaches the stomach. This maximizes the absorption of long-chain fatty acids.
But BodyVega Omega 3 provides you with more than double the amount of EPA and DHA (1400 mg total). How do you know if the Nature Made softgels are strong enough to experience the full health benefits?
In this review we’ll compare Nature Made Fish Oil to two other top-rated fish oil supplements; Dr. Tobias Omega 3 Fish Oil, and Nordic Naturals Ultimate Omega. Comparisons include the price, customer feedback, ingredients, cost per serving, and why their EPA and DHA dosages are more than double that of Nature Made.
Nature Made Fish Oil Ingredients
Unless you’re comparing a single-ingredient supplement like creatine or glutamine, it’s difficult to make accurate price comparisons. Although Nature Made use the same combination of ingredients as many companies, it’s the dosage that’s different.
Each serving contains 2000 mg of fish oil and a combined 500 mg of EPA and DHA, which is slightly less omega fatty acids than the Coromega Omega-3 squeeze packets.
But in terms of cost per serving, Nature Made was less than half the price of Coromega at the time of writing this review ($0.11 vs. $0.25).
So how effective are the ingredients, and do the Nature Made softgels give you enough long-chain fatty acids? (EPA and DHA)
Does Nature Made include enough EPA and DHA?
One scientific study significantly improved Paired Associate Learning and Verbal Recognition Memory scores in healthy adults aged 55 years and over. This was achieved with 900 mg DHA for 24 weeks. No adverse effects were experience, and researchers concluded that 900 mg/day of DHA improved learning and memory function in patients with age-related cognitive decline (ARCD).
However, 900 mg of DHA in a single serving is surprisingly hard to find in a health supplement. One of the only products we found to include it was Nature’s Way EfaGold Mega-DHA. Each 2-softgel serving contained 1,000 mg of DHA, 400 mg of EPA, and 2,000 mg of fish oil.
Allergen information: No yeast or starch. Gluten free.

Review Overview
Overall Review Rating
3.5 / 5
The American Heart Association has a Strategic Impact Goal for 2020 and beyond, which recommends eating more than two 3.5-oz servings of fish per week (preferably oily fish). This is part of a plan to improve the cardiovascular health of all Americans by 20%, while reducing deaths from cardiovascular disease and stroke by 20%.
The World Health Organization (WHO) has set a recommended daily intake of 2 g per day. Some experts have suggested a higher dose of 3 g/day, which is still considered safe by the FDA, but rejected by WHO after considering the sustainability of the fish supply.
The National Academy of Medicine has slightly lower recommendations of 1.6 g for men, and 1.1g for women (1.4 g if pregnant). Our omega-3 buying guide has more information on daily intake levels for different health conditions.
Is it worth buying? Nature Made Fish Oil softgels have just 600 mg of omega-3 per serving, well below daily recommendations, but twice what you get with Kirkland Signature Fish Oil. So at best it’s a top-up for anyone with a high intake of fatty acids from food.
Considering the low levels of EPA and DHA, the cost per serving is high (around $0.10 at time of review). For a couple of cents more you could double the EPA intake with NOW Foods Ultra Omega-3.
If you’re really looking to boost your intake, you could even try Viva Naturals Omega 3. It’s around 4 times the price of Nature Made, but has 1400 mg of EPA and 480 mg DHA per serving (2 g total omega-3 fatty acids).
