Vitamin Bounty Pro-25 Probiotic Ingredients

Bifidobacterium bifidum (B. bifidum) is one of the most common strains of probiotic bacteria found in the human body, mostly inhabiting the mouth and gastrointestinal tract. As one of the lactic acid bacteria, B. bifidum can be found in a range of fermented foods, including some yogurts and cheeses. Health benefits include prevention and treatment of irritable bowel syndrome (IBS), lung infections, constipation, and certain types of diarrhea. Some studies have also found B. bifidum to be beneficial to the immune system.
Bifidobacterium lactis (B. lactis) is a powerful strain of probiotic bacteria that occurs naturally in the gut. Health benefits include its ability to improve digestion, enhance immune function, and even fight tumor growth. As a type of bifidobacteria, B. lactis is also commonly used for the treatment and prevention of diarrhea, constipation, and IBS. Because Pro-25 uses a blend of probiotics, it’s difficult to identify the exact dose of bifidobacteria cultures. Research suggests 30 billion bifidobacteria cultures consumed daily for 4-6 weeks has delivered positive results.
Lactobacillus acidophilus (L. acidophilus) is a type of bacteria that plays an important role in human health, through the production of an enzyme called lactase. Lactase breaks down lactose into lactic acid, which helps prevent the growth of bad bacteria. L. acidophilus also has numerous potential health benefits, including reducing high cholesterol levels, improving symptoms of IBS, and boosting the immune system to reduce the risk of viral infections, such as cold and flu.

So, is the Vitamin Bounty Pro-25 probiotic supplement worth buying?
Each serving contains half as much CFU per serving (25 billion vs. 50 billion), but you're still getting the same 13 probiotic strains. NatureWise is one of the only supplement companies we've seen to use more, with 30 strains in their Daily Care and Maximum Care probiotics, but only 10 billion or 30 billion CFU per serving, respectively.
Studies have indicated that probiotic supplements that use multiple strains generally have greater efficacy than single strains. This also works out to be much cheaper and more convenient than trying to source and combine individual strains. Not all are available as standalone supplements.
The only potential downside is the lack of B. coagulans. One specific strain of B. coagulans (GBI-30, 6086) has shown to reduce exercise-induced muscle fatigue and aid digestion of carbs and proteins. It's rarely found in multi-strain probiotics, but you could always combine Vitamin Bounty Pro-25 with Schiff Digestive Advantage (only contains GBI-30, 6086), for the complete spectrum of health benefits.
Overall, it's easy to see why Vitamin Bounty Pro-25 is one of the most popular probiotic supplements on the market. The Pro-50 version is slightly more expensive than Pro-25, so it could be worth assessing your tolerance and the health benefits you experience with Pro-25 before considering increasing your intake to 50 billion CFU daily.
