MusclePharm Combat 100% Whey provides you with 25 g of protein, 3 g of carbohydrates, 1 g of fat, and 120 calories per serving, as a low-carb, high-protein supplement with minimal fat and low sodium.

Designed as a pure protein powder, with no BCAAs, creatine, or glutamine, Combat 100% Whey combines two types of fast digesting protein; whey protein isolate, and whey protein concentrate. But does it represent good value for money?

In this review we’ll compare MusclePharm Combat to two other top-rated whey protein powders; Gold Standard 100% Whey from Optimum Nutrition, and Six Star 100% Whey Protein. This includes the ingredients, dosage, price, cost per serving, and customer feedback, to guarantee you only buy the best protein to support your fitness goals.

We’ve also included recommendations on the best way to stack Combat Whey with pre-workout, creatine, BCAA, and glutamine supplements, to help boost muscle size, strength, endurance, and recovery.

MusclePharm Combat Whey Ingredients

MusclePharm Combat Whey Ingredients

The MusclePharm Combat protein line currently includes four products: MusclePharm Combat (time release formula), Combat 100% Whey, Combat 100% Isolate, and Combat Weight Gainer.

Combat 100% Whey has a similar macronutrient profile to the original time release Combat formula, with 25 g of protein, 3 g of carbs, and 1.5 g of fat. With Combat you’re getting an additional 2 g of carbs, while the 100% Isolate version has 24 g of protein but zero carbs and fats.

As with most protein powders, the sodium content varies slightly between flavors. The lowest sodium content comes from Cookies ’n’ Cream or Vanilla (65 mg, 3% DV), while the highest is from Strawberry (85 mg, 4% DV).

Micronutrient content (vitamins and minerals) is pretty much the same across all flavors, with calcium (10% DV) and iron (2%), but nothing like what you’ll find in Optimum Nutrition Serious Mass (25 vitamins and minerals blend).

MusclePharm Combat 100% Whey has a protein blend that combines whey protein isolate with whey protein concentrate. This is a combination that’s used across most whey protein powders, with isolate to keep the carb and fat levels low, and whey concentrate to keep the price affordable.

Other ingredients listed on the label can include Columbian instant coffee (cappuccino flavor), natural and artificial flavors, and two types of sweetener: acesulfame potassium and sucralose. There’s also a small amount of soy lecithin, which supplement companies add to their protein powders to improve mixability.

Combat 100% Whey is gluten free, banned substance tested, and contains no artificial dyes or colors.

What flavors and sizes are available?

With a serving size of 32 grams, each tub provides you with either 28 or 70 servings. Following the recommendation of 2 servings per day, this should be enough to last up to 1 month / 35 days.

At the time of writing this review, the best value for money comes from the larger 5 pound tub. Each serving was priced at $0.61, compared to $1.00 per serving for the 2 pound tub. That’s why we always recommend calculating the average cost per serving, across all sizes, before making a final buying decision.

Protein Powder Buying Guide

Review Overview

Overall Review Rating

4.5 / 5

At the time of writing this review, each 33 gram serving of MusclePharm Combat 100% Whey was priced at $0.58, based on buying the 5 pound tub. That’s a considerable saving compared to the 2 pound tub, where each serving was priced at $0.96.

We always recommend checking the price of each flavor before buying. The prices listed above are based on the Chocolate Milk flavor, but other flavors were up to 10% more expensive.

If you’re able to buy the 5 pound tub for less than $40, it’s really incredible value. This was the price when we calculated the $0.58 per serving, which is cheaper than Optimum Nutrition Gold Standard Whey ($0.78 per serving).

Overall, we were impressed by the high protein content, low fat, sugar and carb levels, and range of sizes on offer. The fact that it was so much cheaper than Gold Standard Whey is a huge bonus, as they have almost identical macronutrients.

Important: The 5 pound tub was much cheaper than Gold Standard Whey, but the 2 pound tub was more expensive. Always check the size and flavor to find the best deal and lowest price.
