Design features

If you have been training with free weights at home for a while, eventually you will reach the stage where you need a safe way to perform reps with a heavier weight, without having the benefit of a spotter.

While smith machines are certainly an option, due to the increased complexity of their design they are often much more expensive than power racks. Their range of motion is also much more limited compared to lifting in a rack, which isn’t always favourable for exercises such as squats.

The Powerline PPR200X is a competitively priced design that allows you to workout at home in complete safety, without the use of a spotter.

Whereas standard walk-in squat racks provide a certain level of support for the bar when racked, as soon as you walk back with the weight you are opening yourself up to a high risk of injury.

This is particularly true if you enjoy strength training workouts, where the reps will often be at the lower end of the scale, between 1 and 6.

Safety features

To really go to failure in these types of set and properly test your one rep max, there needs to be some form of failsafe to take the weight off you if you can’t complete the rep.

This is where the saber-style safety rods are so crucial. With 18 adjustment levels to choose from, these horizontal bars provide complete support for the bar at a level to suit your height and current exercise.

While the lower settings are ideal for bench presses and partial deadlifts, mid range settings are much better suited to front and back squats.

The higher bar settings are best used for supporting the bar for heavier overhead presses, where you might not want to expend energy on getting the bar into position at the start of each set.

Although the frame of the Powerline PPR200X is relatively shallow, there’s still enough room to slide a weights bench into the walk-in area of the frame.

There’s also the added benefit of having a pull up bar at the front of the frame for performing chin ups and pull ups, with knurled sections to assist your grip.

With a recommended weight limit on the supports and safety rods of 600 lb, this should prove more than enough to support even the heaviest lifts for the majority of weightlifters.

While the standard rack has been kept as simple as possible to keep the price down, there are a number of attachments available that allow you to custom build this rack to suit your specific needs.

Two of the most popular options are the PLA200X lat pulldown tower and the 2″ Olympic weight plate holders.

The lat pulldown attachment provides both a high and low cable pulley, helping to create a range of isolation exercises to compliment the compound exercises possible in the main rack.

Although the lat pulldown only provides you with a wide lat bar and low row bar, you can buy a variety of different attachments to train almost every muscle in the body.

When combined with a simple adjustable weights bench, barbell, and weight plate set, even without the lat pulldown you can perform many of the most effective exercises for increasing strength and size.

  • Rows (with a barbell, or lying through the rack, back to ground, and using the safety bars)

  • Push-ups (use parallettes or push-up bars and adjust your angle by putting your feet on a safety bar)

The Powerline PPR200X Power Rack helps weightlifters work out safely and efficiently while performing squats, military presses, and more. With the wide walk in design there is plenty of side to side movement for a variety of exercises such as squats, incline, decline, flat and military presses as well as shrugs and calf raises.

With the 2 saber bars and set of bar supports, the power rack improves the safety of the exercises, allowing you to push yourself without the need for a spotter.

Keeping attachments such as the weight plate storage pegs separate from the main rack is an excellent way of keeping the cost lower, allowing you to custom build the PPR200X to meet your own requirements.

Despite being priced as an entry level model, the Powerline PPR200X provides much of the strength and stability of racks double the price.
