If you’re considering buying a new set of weights for your own home gym, there are a number of important reasons why many people are choosing the Ironmaster Adjustable Dumbbells over fixed weight designs.

Working out from home often means that you won’t have the same space or budget as a commercial gym.

To prevent having to make a compromise and only put together a limited range of weight sets, adjustable dumbbells are the most effective and low cost option.

This is why we wanted to take a look at the dumbbell features in more detail, to provide a clear idea of what you can expect for your money.

Quick Change Weight Plates

Ironmaster 75 lb Quick-Lock Adjustable Dumbbells

If you’ve had any experience with dumbbells in the past, you’ve probably come across a set that allows you to change the number of weight plates loaded at each end.

This involves sliding off the locking collars, finding a matching set of weight plates, loading the plates onto the bar, and finally replacing the locking collars.

Consider having to do this twice (once for each dumbbell) between every set of your workout, and you’ve soon spent half your recovery time just changing the weight!

Even when compared with similar sets, the Ironmaster Adjustable Dumbbells offer a unique way of adjusting the weight.

By sliding a large metal pin along the inside of the dumbbell bar and rotating the large, flat face of the pin a couple of times you soon have the plates locked safely in place.

There’s no complicated locking mechanism and no slot in the plates for the weight plate to risk sliding off. The end of each locking pin is even clearly labelled to let you know when they are in the locked position.

When choosing the shape of the weight plates, Ironmaster realised that they needed a design that would rest securely on any stand when not in use.

This is why the plates are square, instead of the more conventional rounded design, and part of why these are quite possibly the safest set of adjustable dumbbells you’ll come across.

Comfortable Handle Design

Together with their intuitive weight plate adjustment system, the Ironmaster Adjustable Dumbbells also provide a comfortable, easy to grip handle.

Narrower in diameter than some designs, this helps to wrap your hand around the bar to get a better grip on heavier weights.

Knurling has also been applied to create a better texture on the face of the metal that won’t slip from your grip during exercises such as dumbbell rows or shrugs.

Its simple design features like these that have resulted in very few moving parts, and no locking pins sticking out that could risk being damaged.

Weight Limit

One of the main problems for more advanced strength training programs is that the dumbbells often aren’t heavy enough to work the muscles effectively.

To avoid having to upgrade a set of adjustable dumbbells at a higher price in the near future, when your strength increases you can simply add more plates.

With Ironmaster such a well known name thanks to its high quality fitness products, it’s no surprise that this set can be extended up to an impressive 120 lb per dumbbell.

The standard set allows up to 75 lb per dumbbell using the shorter locking screws, with a 90 lb upgrade set available (45 lb per dumbbell. Also includes a set of longer locking pins).

Even using the standard set allows you to quickly change from 5 lb up to 75 lb thanks to their patented Quick-Lock design.

Set includes:

  • 24 x 5 lb plates
  • 4 x 2.5 lb plates

  • 2 x Handles (5 lb each)
  • 4 x Locking Screws (2.5 lb each)

Exercise Options (combining The Ironmaster Bench)

With such a wide range of weight options available, it’s important to find a good quality weights bench that has a high enough weight capacity.

Fortunately, Ironmaster developed their popular ‘Super Bench’, which has been designed with stability, strength, and versatility in mind.

As well as being able to support up to 1000 lb of weight (600 lb in incline and upright positions), you can also quickly adjust the bench through a variety of angles.

If you want to add some extra exercises for your back, triceps, or shoulders, you can even choose from a host of additional attachments. These include a chin up bar, foam rollers to assist with sit ups, and even a set of parallel dip bars.

Exercise options (when combined with an adjustable weights bench):
