The ProForce Stretchmaster II Leg Stretcher is designed to safely improve your flexibility through stretching of the legs and hips.
As with other leg stretch machines, the Stretchmaster II uses a steering wheel control to incrementally adjust the degree of stretch. So why should you buy this device instead of the TMAS Pro or Valor Fitness CA-27?
In this review we’ll help you decide if the Stretchmaster II is the best leg stretch machine for your budget. Whether you want to increase your range of movement for competitive sports, to perform leg splits, or simply stretch your hamstrings.
Design features
The Stretchmaster II shares many of its design features with the TMAS Pro Leg Stretcher. They both have a steering wheel gear system to control how far you stretch, an adjustable back support, and enable you to stretch beyond 180 degrees.
In fact, aside from a couple of small differences in the frame design, they’re essentially the same machine.
But at the time of writing this review, it was the TMAS Pro Leg Stretcher that had more reviews on Amazon, with higher ratings, sold for a lower price. That’s why we recommend reading our review of the TMAS Pro before making a final buying decision.
Unfortunately, this isn’t the type of stretch machine to come with adjustable leg supports. Instead, ProForce have increased the length of the vertical cushion, to cater for a variety of user heights. This is compared to the Century Versaflex and Valor Fitness CA-27, which are two leg stretch machines with multiple leg support positions.
Comfortable, controlled stretching
Improving the elasticity and suppleness of your joints and muscles takes time, which means integrating stretch workouts into your fitness routine. That’s why it’s important to be as comfortable as possible during each stretch position.
With enough flexibility, the ProForce Stretchmaster II can double as a splits machine. But if you’re just getting started, you’ll want some stretch positions that are a little less daunting.
Fortunately, the steering wheel gear system puts you in complete control of the stretching intensity and duration. A stop latch also allows you to reach and hold your optimum stretch safely, even in a home gym.
Padding in the leg rests, back support, and seat also ensure your workout remains comfortable, with a sturdy steel frame for added safety and stability.
Proforce Stretchmaster – Product Summary
- Sturdy, steel construction
- Padded leg supports and seat cushions
- Adjustable back support
- Roller wheels and detachable steering wheel for a smooth stretching motion
- Stretch beyond 180°
- Stop latch helps you hold your maximum stretch position
Ease of assembly
Even without an instruction manual, assembling the ProForce StretchMaster is easy to do. Once the machine is fully assembled, you can remove the steering wheel control and fold the back support flat for more convenient storage.
Unfortunately it’s not a simple task to remove the leg supports, as you can with the Valor Fitness CA-27. This means that even with the back support folded, the StretchMaster II has more height than other, more compact leg stretch machines.
Exercise options
As a seated leg stretch/splits machine, the ProForce Stretchmaster II has fewer exercise options than full body stretch trainers. But the range of motion still allows you to create an effective leg stretch workout for your hamstrings, hips, and adductors (inner thigh muscles).
Greater flexibility in these muscle groups can lead to an improvement in athletic performance. This includes faster running times, a deeper range of motion in the barbell squat, and better split flexibility for martial arts, such as Brazilian Jiu Jitsu.
If you would like to stretch your quadriceps, gastrocnemius (upper calf muscle), soleus (lower calf muscle), and even tibialis anterior (shin muscle), we recommend buying a leg stretch machine with a standing calf stretch platform. The NitroFit Limber Pro is an excellent example.
What do the Proforce Stretchmaster reviews say?
The ProForce Stretchmaster Leg Stretch Machine is one of the best stretch devices for home gyms, with dozens of highly rated Amazon reviews. But it’s also one of the most expensive, with a price that’s higher than the TMAS Pro, Valor Fitness CA-27, and Century Versaflex.
So, is it the best machine for your leg stretch workouts? Is there any reason you should pay 10-20% more than the TMAS Pro for essentially the same machine?
To find out, it’s worth looking at what other customers have said about their stretching experience.
In order to save you time, we’ve aggregated the pros and cons from the ProForce Stretchmaster II reviews on Amazon.
Pros:
- Convenient to use after workouts at home
- The degree of stretch can go beyond 180 degrees, which martial arts practitioners find useful
- Although the Stretchmaster II is a leg stretch machine, some customers have found it alleviates their lower back pain
- Comfortable seat positions
- Steering wheel control offers excellent control over the stretch angle
- Quick and easy to assemble
- Sturdy frame and smooth wheel crank, offering smaller increments than ratchet systems
Cons:
- If you have longer legs, your ankles can slip between the two parts of the leg rest. Customers resolve this by wearing shoes when they stretch.
- The back support is shorter than some customers would like, but this is standard length for a leg stretch machine
- Some customers noted a weakness in the back support bar, which was also mentioned in the TMAS Pro reviews
- Bare metal base frame can easily scratch wooden floors. We recommend placing the machine on a gym mat
Review Overview
Overall Review Rating
4 / 5
The ProForce Stretchmaster II is rated as one of the best leg stretchers on the market, with dozens of highly rated reviews on Amazon. After taking a closer look at the equipment design, we can understand why, but it wouldn't our top choice for taller users (5' 8"+).
This is due to the vertical leg support pads, which don't extend to the full length of the base pads. Having a gap means it's easy for your ankles to rest between the vertical and flat supports, which can lead to discomfort during deep stretches.
The Tiger Deluxe Leg Stretcher and TMAS Pro Leg Stretcher utilize a similar design, with users reporting similar problems. One solution is to wear shoes and thick socks when performing your leg stretch workout. Alternatively, a machine like the Valor Fitness CA-27 uses removable pads with multiple height settings, which could be a more comfortable option.
Setting this aside, the ProForce Stretchmaster remains one of the best stretch machines for stretching your legs safely at home. Whatever your stretching ability, the small increments which which you can adjust the stretch degree helps prevent any painful or jerky movements.
